Good hotel for families in Orlando

We decided to cash in our Marriott points for a week stay in Orlando. We have always been big fans of Marriott residence Inn, and this one did not disappoint. It is located within walking distance of Sea world, which is nice. It is about 20 minutes to the Disney world Resort, but not a bad drive. It is a quiet location away from the chaos that is Disney. The rooks were nice with plenty of space for the family. The free breakfast was decent as well, which is usually the case at a Residence Inn. Overall, a good experience for the family. We would definitely stay here again when we travel to Orlando. But ,we like to stay away from the crowds.

In the midst of parks & close to the Convention Center.

We did not do Disney, our focus was Sea World and its assorted parks, to which this hotel provided easy access. The bus which makes the rounds to and from the parks and hotels was convenient for us, relatively speaking, especially considering the price of parking at each park. Before we ever arrived, we contacted the hotel for information and found the staff helpful. Due to airline expenses, we opted to mail our luggage via UPS and in this area too we found the staff cooperative and the hotel accommodating both receiving and sending the packages back out afterward. (And how lovely to have our luggage delivered to our porch days after arrival so we had plenty of time to recuperate before dirty laundry had to be done!) The hotel put us in a top floor corner room for our two week stay which was marvelous for avoiding much of the sounds one can’t often avoid in hotels. We had a kitchenette and shopped locally, and were able to get any of the dishes the hotel had for our use simply by contacting the front desk (sometimes guests or staff may leave the cupboards a bit barer than convenient for the next guests.) There is an outdoor pool which was lovely, and a wonderful breakfast buffet to set up a family for any great adventures they may plan. It is a busy hotel and we found the staff friendly and willing to help as much as possible. We are not pet people but this hotel accepts pets and there is an area for dog duty, etc. (Unfortunately this leaves an aroma by the door.) 🙁 We had no negative pet encounters and are glad for those who can find this service to their convenience. We had read a review that complained the spare bed was not made up ahead of time despite a request, and we found this true for our arrival as well. Perhaps the same reviewer said their spare bed was later stripped but not remade, obviously an inconvenience upon return, especially late at night, so we worked hard to not allow this to happen, even having no one come in to do anything. I tried writing notes but sometimes this was more confusing than nothing, apparently, but we have no complaints of anything being an unfixable problem. Overall our experience was quite pleasant and our price was through some price-saving website that kept things reasonable.

We were there in August and afternoon thunderstorms were normal, so plan accordingly. There are pool towels, but if going to a park you may want to bring towels from home or rent at the water park. We found carrying our towels around our necks a very handy way to bring ours, as we avoided luggage costs and had a handy foldable pillow or even a blanket in the cool a.c. of the plane.

    Ideal stay for our Visit

This was our second time staying at this hotel; previously we had stayed here two years ago and we were placed in a bigger room with two bathrooms within each bedroom which was perfectly comfortable for everyone. The room wasnt bad for the price. Also, we have two Marriott rewards card holder members in our family and even though the reservation was made on one of them, the hotel was able to comply and use a free night from the other card which saved us about 140$ from one of our nights. The maids were always refilling our soap but sometimes it took longer to get fresher towels back. The only thing not so great was the breakfast. I cannot complain about breakfast being free, but if I do state my concerns, I would only say the breakfast area is way too small for the amount of people. The area looks like a flock of vultures preying over one animal since all the food is in the same area where everyone is running over everybody else in order to get what they want. It also seemed like there was only maybe two people working it on a given morning, and when things ran out the lines grew longer when people would wait for that item. Most things were cold or terrible anyways (the waffles and pancakes). I usually wouldnt bother to wait in line for the toasters in the chaos so I would take bread back to the room to make in the room toaster. After the first four days of attempting to get breakfast, my family ended up seeking out Paneras or starbucks because it was worth getting worthwhile breakfast over hard, cold waffles or eating fruit loops again. Another thing, not about breakfast, was the work out room sucked. I try to maintain going to the gym every morning at home and when I arrived at the hotel, the workout room had 2 tredmills which I didnt bother using since I was running around the Disney Parks all day, 2 ellipticals and only one pull down machine with a knee press, and a pedal seat. There were no weights and I decided the best workout I was getting in the hotel was walking up six flights of stairs to my room.

The hotel is in eye sight of Sea World, and only about a 10 minute drive or less to the Disney Parks 🙂
