A great hotel near the National Zoo
The Shoreham is a classic hotel that overlooks Washington DC from atop a hill next to Rock Creek Park. It’s easy to access from the Beltway, and with a Metro stop right across the street, equally easy to get to and from the museums and attractions across town at the National Mall. The hotel has an old-school glamour but is also very comfortable for families with large rooms (ours had a sitting area with a wall that meant we could put the kids to bed and hang out on the couch and drink some wine).
Tips for Families
The breakfast buffet at the hotel, while it isn’t cheap, is a great value because it’s so lavish. My kids loved it and we didn’t really need lunch because we ate so much (that means it basically fueled an entire day at the Smithsonian!). Make sure you check out the hotel grounds too – there are hammocks as well as chess and backgammon tables.
