    Very Disappointed

Ugh. Where do I start? I wanted to love this place. I love Homewood Suites. It’s my go-to hotel chain. I recommend it to everyone I know. Separate sleeping spaces for us and our daughter, great air conditioning, free meals, decent swimming pools, on-site laundry facilities (a godsend), a well-equipped kitchen in the room, a separate vanity area from the bathroom where you can get ready sans shower steam, free and fast wi-fi – this is the Homewood Suites I’m accustomed to. There has never been anything not to love until now. I’m so sad. We stayed here for five nights. The staff was extremely pleasant, friendly, prompt, and helpful. I have no complaints whatsoever about the staff except that they made no effort to get us into the king suite that we paid for and stuck us in a room with double beds instead. It’s the facilities that are the issue. It felt like the hotel chain bought an old, run-down apartment building, made it look pretty on the outside, BARELY refurbished it on the inside, and then started letting customers in. Some highlights (see photos): Run-down areas of the room, crooked and broken light switches, a funky musty smell in the room, having to accept two double beds for a five night stay when we had made reservations for a king suite, a definite cigarette smoke odor coming from the designated smoking areas into our room (gross!!!!), the dryer barely worked, kitchen appliances appeared to be as old as we were, it was a major hike to the Metro which caused us to use taxis most of the time because it was impossible with a two year old, terrible views, stucco and chipping paint on the walls, zero air conditioning in the lobby in August, dampness and faulty air conditioning in the room, uncomfortable and cheap mattresses, awful fluorescent lights in the room, no pool… the televisions were the only things that appeared not to be outdated. Don’t let the nice brick exterior fool you. This hotel needs major, major, major renovations inside before it will be on par with any of the other Homewood Suites hotels where we’ve previously stayed. And for over $200/night? Forget it!

    Tips for Families

Wait to stay here until this hotel makes major renovations to the interior. If you insist on staying here in the meantime, make sure it’s with older kids who can handle long, uphill walks. “Metro accessible” is used in the loosest sense of the term here, as in, just because it’s physically possible to get to the Metro doesn’t mean it’s convenient or easy with small children. Don’t stay here with anyone you’ll end up having to carry uphill the whole way home every day. Also, if you do choose to stay here, there’s a Whole Foods and a Starbucks within walking distance (Google Map it).
