Budget-friendly ocean front property
In looking for a hotel within close proximity to San Francisco but minus the pricey hotel rates and parking fees, we booked a room at this Holiday Inn. It was our first visit to the small coastal town of Pacifica. We were pleasantly surprised with our ocean front room located 10 minutes from San Francisco. The ocean views along with free parking, WiFi and hot breakfast were almost too good to be true. Although there weren’t many amenities (no pool or Jacuzzi), our comfortable room had a mini fridge and was just steps from the ocean (we could hear the waves at night). We were also close to a scenic hiking trail overlooking the Pacific. We would definitely stay here again.
Tips for Families
It sounds funny but the nearby Taco Bell on Highway 1 is right on the beach – prime spot! What a way to enjoy cheap dining on the beach! There’s a shopping center with a grocery store and a few more fast food restaurants across the street.

Affordable Bay Area Ocean View Lodging
As an alternative to staying in a pricey hotel in San Francisco and paying for parking, we opted for the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Pacifica, just minutes south of SF. The hotel is right on the beach, has free parking, a free hot buffet breakfast and coin-operated laundry facilities. Friendly service and freshly baked cookies in the lobby round out the family-friendly amenities. We loved our ocean view room, which had a flat screen TV and a fireplace. The clean, spacious hotel has easy access to hiking. The coastal trail seemed to be popular with families and dogs. There are benches along the way so you can sit and enjoy the ocean views. From the hotel, you can either drive to San Francisco and be there in minutes, or take the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in nearby Daly City. That’s a good option because then you don’t have to worry about driving around and parking in San Francisco. Staying in a beach hotel enhances a trip to San Francisco. After a busy sightseeing day at the wharf or Alcatraz, it’s so nice to return to a quiet hotel on the beach. We bought sandwiches from a nearby deli and had a picnic on the beach, very relaxing! FYI: For a really budget-friendly meal, there’s a large Taco Bell restaurant with an outdoor deck on the beach. Cheapest oceanfront dining we ever had.
Tips for Families
Buy snacks and drinks in Pacifica before heading into the city (SF). A nearby shopping center is a good place to pick up essentials, such as sunscreen, sand toys and drinks.
