Beautiful, but not great for swimmers
Although it’s probably 30 years old, this resort is well kept up. Just be prepared to walk a lot, which isn’t always fun with a two-year-old–even the parking lot was probably a 15-minute walk from our room. We all enjoyed the buffet breakfasts, mostly because the fruit was plentiful, exotic and delicious. On the flip side, the pools were too cold for my two-year-old, and you have to walk a ways to get to a beach (though there were turtles lounging on the sand that he absolutely loved!). We had a babysitter for our son one evening and we were looking forward to relaxing in the hot tub, but since it’s kid-friendly, it wasn’t too relaxing. Oh well. There are some things that could be improved here and it’s not cheap, but it’s still pretty and my son had a great time, which was a big part of why we stayed here in the first place.

Amazing for kids!
Wow, we were blown away by this hotel. Kiddie crack for my 23-month-old! Hard to say which was more fun for him–taking the tram or the boat back to our room…yes, this is a huge complex, but getting there is half the fun. And did I mention feeding the dolphins with him? Kodak moment indeed. And then of course there are the turtles on the beach. You really don’t even need to leave the grounds to have an amazing vacation, though of course this being Hawaii, the surrounding area is stunning too.
Tips for Families
Come sometime between April to October…we went at Christmastime, and though the resort was beautifully decorated with lights and trees, it was Hawaii’s rainy season, and it was raining or overcast every day.

A theme park and a hotel in one
Wow, wow, wow. Loved this place. It’s a megaresort but you won’t feel like a number here–the staff was all really nice. And the pool is unbelievable–waterfalls, flowers…. Did I mention that you can take a boat to your room? Aloha!
Tips for Families
Skip the breakfast buffet and get a room with a kitchenette instead–you’ll save a ton.
