The resort is set amidst 500 acres, located on the Santa Ana Pueblo Reservation just 10 minutes from Albuquerque and 50 minutes from Santa Fe. There are spectacular views of the Rio Grande River and Sandia Mountains. There are 3 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, the Twin Warriors Golf Course, horse stables, the Tamaya Mist Spa and Hot Air Ballooning available at the resort. A low rise Abobe Southwestern style architecture with a huge Grand Courtyard with 3 outdoor heated pools. Beautiful mid sized lobby, with ornate wood carvings, southwestern floorings with Indian accents, intimate setting with fireplace and spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains. The decor reflects traditional southwestern region. Each room offers a private balcony with beautiful sunset views. All rooms have coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, refrigerator, TV with cable, radio, 2 line telephone lines, voicemail, data port, high speed internet access, airconditioning and daily newspaper. Connection of a different kind
The Tamaya Resort is truly special. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine chain hotels providing authentically unique experiences, but this one does for sure. Having experienced the Tamaya when my kids were very little (and loving it!) I was eager to go back with them and add to our history there. I wasn’t disappointed. Driving up to the resort you wonder where in the world you are– it’s off the beaten track a bit… past a casino and a reservation… it appears before you suddenly, blending in to the desert terrain. We were instantly greeted by the friendly staff who were more than happy to hear my son’s ramblings about his belief in jackelopes and share the Tamayame’s love for hospitality and their respect for nature. This is a gorgeous, sprawling, adobe-style resort with every corner reflecting the New Mexican culture. After unpacking we headed to one of the resorts pools which boasts an adobe tower that encases a super steep and super fun water slide! Nighttime takes us to the outdoor fire pit, s’mores and an incredible talk with a Native American storyteller who entrances us with tales of the stars and the Santa Ana tribe. The next day we made corn bread in a traditional outdoor oven and tried to create terra cotta pots with teachers from the reservation. Round out the weekend with horseback riding around the immense property and the realization that we are all connected to the earth, the sky, and to each other. This is a vacation destination we will return to again and again– always leaving wanting more.
Tips for Families
Be sure to take advantage of all the free activities offered at the resort– they’re the best! We had so much fun line dancing under the stars and learning all about desert animal life! Wow!
